WHAT? We are working to support the Kaltjiti (Fregon) community (in the APY Lands) and its elected Council members in their desire for increased participation and ownership of a school re-development project.
HOW? The Kaltjiti Community Council have requested our support to assist them in being more closely involved and empowered as decision makers around the Fregon Anangu School upgrade. Our work includes advocacy, capacity building and facilitating a community-led co-design process with the SA Department of Education. Our role is to ensure the process brings maximum overall benefit to the community and supports the things that are important, such as good employment outcomes for local people.
WHY? In 2018, the SA Department for Education announced plans to redevelop the Fregon Community School in the APY Lands. The Community Council requested the support of Empowered Communities to help ensure they have an ongoing role in the planning and construction process, and that Council is supported in their goal to see that maximum benefits from the project are retained in the community.
